Peña de la Dehesa

Add it to your travel notebook

This is one of the most unique spots in Alcoba that belongs to the collective imagination of the locals. It is a quartzite outcrop that rises above the surrounding plain, making it a privileged hill that stands like a sentinel.

Traditionally, the locals would gather around this crag every 3 February, the feast of St. Blaise, to enjoy typical food. The festivity of San Blas (St. Blaise) is widely celebrated in Castilla-La Mancha, and dates back to the Middle Ages. Normally, high places are chosen for its celebration, beaten by the harsh winter wind. For this reason, it is said that he is the patron saint of throat and ear ailments.
